Getting to Lugano
Arriving in Lugano from other European countries is straightforward thanks to Switzerland’s well-connected transport network. The most convenient way is typically by air to Milan or Zurich Airport, depending on your departure city.
From Milan
In Milan, there are three different airports, all of which are connected to the Milano Centrale train station:
Once in Milano Centrale, take the TiLo , a direct train to Lugano.
From Zurich
You can check train options directly on the SBB website. From Zurich Airport, take the first train to Zurich HB, and from there you can catch one of the several direct trains to Lugano.
Accommodation
Accommodation for the participants will be provided at Montarina Hotel&Hostel, where we reserved double, triple and quadruple rooms. The hotel is located in a historic villa from the 19th century surrounded by a large palm park with an outdoor swimming pool and offers several amenities including free Wi-Fi, common areas, a shared kitchenette and laundry facilities. It is centrally located only about 200 meters from Lugano’s main train station, making it very easy to reach and convenient for exploring the city.
How to reach the hotel from Lugano train station?
After arriving at Lugano railway station, exit the station following the signs for Via Basilea. Walk to the street behind the station and take the short uphill path (stairs or road) towards Via Montarina. The hotel entrance is located at Via Montarina 1 and can be reached in approximately 5 minutes on foot.

More information about the accommodation can be found on the hotel website: Montarina Hotel & Hostel official website.
What does the fee include?
The fee will not exceed €200 (worst-case scenario), and depending on the additional funding that we can get, the price might decrease. The fee covers:
Accommodation in shared rooms (from 2 to 4 guests per room) for 3 nights (from Wednesday to Friday).
Meals during the workshop .
Other types of accommodations are of course possible in the city of Lugano, but these are not covered by the Workshop.
Tips
Please note that Lugano is outside the EU, so there are a few practical things to keep in mind:
💰Currency: Switzerland uses Swiss Francs (CHF), not Euros. Most businesses accept credit/debit cards and electronic payments, but to get the best exchange rate, we recommend pre-loading a multi-currency card like Revolut. You can exchange up to €1,000 per month without extra fees.
📱Mobile / Phone: Roaming charges may apply, except with some providers (e.g., Fastweb). A convenient option is to purchase a temporary eSIM for Switzerland through services such as Airalo or Mobimatter .
💳 Most shops, restaurants, and public transport accept contactless payments and Euro. You probably don’t need to get cash.
